This minimum salary, however, is still practically half of the average monthly gross salary throughout Spain, which in 2021 reached 2,038 euros, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). Last year this average experienced a rise of 2.8% compared to the previous year, the highest since the body began distributing this data in the Active Population Survey in 2006 and which includes employed workers given registered with Social Security for a minimum of two months a year.
There are significant differences between the autonomous communities, with the Community of Madrid being the region where the most money was earned in 2020 for working full-time, with a monthly salary of 2,579 euros. In the second position is the Basque Country, where an average of 2,563 euros per month is charged. In third place on the podium of those who earn the most is Navarra, with 2,485 euros. After the Navarrans, the classification continues with Catalonia (2,398 euros), Asturias (2,375 euros), Cantabria (2,182 euros) and Castilla y León (2,170 euros).
On the opposite side of the ranking, in that of the communities where lower gross salaries are received, are Galicia (2,136 euros), Castilla-La Mancha (2,094 euros), and Andalusia (2,034 euros), Murcia (2,018 euros). , Balearic Islands (2,000 euros), Extremadura (1,987 euros) and Canary Islands (1,959 euros).
Another piece of information to take into account in relation to wages is GDP per capita, which is used to calculate the standard of living in each region. You don't need the same money to live in Madrid as in Ciudad Real, for example. The average national GDP per capita stood at 23,693 euros at the end of 2021, with the Community of Madrid at the top of the table, with 32,048 euros, ahead of the Basque Country (30,401 euros), Navarra (29,314 euros) and Catalonia (27,812 euros).
