Two Spanish cities remain in the top positions of this ranking for another year.
Leading a healthier life is a purpose that many people worldwide make and whose fulfillment does not depend exclusively on their will. The place and time in which we live have a great impact on achieving these goals.
The financial products consultancy 'Money.co.uk' has published a study in which it catalogs the healthiest cities in the world. For its elaboration, it has analyzed factors such as life expectancy, air pollution, obesity rate, security, and the number of hours of sunlight in each location.
For this edition, factors focused on the global coronavirus pandemic have been added. In this way, metrics such as the accessibility of health coverage and the number of mental health nurses, social workers, psychiatrists, and psychologists, among others, have been taken into account. The research also looked at the prevalence of mental health and substance use disorders.
Two Spanish cities remain at the top of the ranking compared to the previous year. Valencia leads the ranking thanks mainly to its climate, gastronomy, cultural heritage, low pollution rates, and a good level of medical care. Madrid, for its part, revalidates the second place achieved in 2021, with good ratings regarding the climate and its large green spaces.
Among the healthiest countries, Japan won the title thanks to its excellent public transport, which favors less car use and therefore less pollution. As for gastronomy, in the Japanese country the portions are much smaller and dishes rich in protein proliferate, as well as greater respect for the preparation and consumption of food. This contrasts sharply with the fast food culture of Western countries.
Switzerland is second among the wealthiest countries on the planet, with a high life expectancy of 84 years. Cuba is in third place, ahead of Slovenia and Armenia.
