Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Tether are the most capitalized cryptocurrencies in the world. Spain is the fifth country with the highest number of cryptocurrency ATMs.
Money has long ceased to be merely physical, with its bills and coins, to become a payment or savings method that can be used in different ways. Through cards, transfers, investment products, or mobile applications, it has evaporated and it is less and less necessary to carry it with you.
One of the most innovative ways, with increasing use in the system, is cryptocurrencies, also called cryptocurrencies or virtual currencies. This digital money relies on highly advanced cryptography to secure transactions, control the creation of additional units, and verify the transfer of assets.
Its digital signatures, peer-to-peer exchange networks, and a decentralized setup offer the possibility of issuing new coins of this type without having to be subject to the surveillance of central banks, monetary authorities, or governments.
The best known of all is Bitcoin, which in turn is the most valuable cryptocurrency on the market. According to data collected on February 18, 2021 (the date of preparation of this article) from CoinMarketCap, an analysis, and monitoring website for this market, its capitalization amounted to 964,146 million dollars (798,762 million euros). It is followed at a great distance by Ethereum, which in turn marks a distance from the rest of the cryptocurrencies, such as Tether, Cardano, Binance Coin, Polkadot, XRP, or Litecoin, among others.
The price per unit varies, and can be less than a dollar, as is the case with many cryptocurrencies, or rise to 52,000 dollars (43,000 euros) that a bitcoin costs. Although, in the latter case you can buy and sell by fractions.
According to Coin ATM Radar, Spain is the fifth country in the world with the largest number of cryptocurrency ATMs, with a total of 120, being Barcelona, with 22; Madrid and Palma de Mallorca, with 15; and Malaga, with 13, the cities with the largest number of facilities of this type. In them, you can carry out bitcoin, lightning BTC, bitcoin cash, ether, eash, eitecoin, zcash, monero, dogecoin, tether, and XRP (Ripple) operations.
Among the countries with the largest number of cryptocurrency ATMs, the United States is in the first place, with 13,106 installations, ahead of Canada (1,219), the United Kingdom (230), and Austria (151).
